Apartment Conversion - Wanstead, E11

Located in one of the most interesting and inspirational historical buildings we had worked at - the Old Wanstead Hospital and former orphanage, now converted to residential flats. Our project was on the top floor, an extensive, over 160 m2 extra-high-ceilings mezzanine apartment containing non-converted space in the two towers on the top of the building. The work involved internal layout reconfiguration to incorporate two new bedrooms and a bathroom. We also renovated other parts of the property, including electrics, plumbing and decorating. Structural work at great height, including complex to organize deliveries of materials to the 7th floor using cranes and special equipment. A separate new mezzanine floor was also built in one of the two towers, thus creating a unique two-level bedroom with exposed, treated original wooden beams. The second new bedroom featured exposed steel beams and an antique round window separating it from the new en-suite we incorporated in the the loft space.
